Technology and Auto Theft

This has been report on the web now for a couple of months, and I would simply like to once again warn everyone. Auto Theft continues to be a growing problem in the U.S. One of the newest techniques is to "capture" the signal from your remote control lock. This is how it works.

The thief has a unit that can "capture" the signal from your remote. Once used to steal the signal to your garage door, now it is being used in auto theft. They will wait nearby, having previously scoped out your car, for you to use your key remote to lock the doors of your car. Once they have it, they simple unlock your car using the same unit, and then once inside the car have the ability to start it and drive away.

The work around is to simply lock the car by hand and not use the remote. This way, the code can not be stolen. So there is a simply low tech answer to a high tech issue.

The Danger of Damaged Windshields

If your car has a cracked windshield, you are in danger. Today the windshield is an intergal part of your auto's safety system. If you are in an accident which deploys the airbags, the probability of the those same airbags blowing out you windshield rather then protecting you and your passanger is very high. Get them fixed and protect yourself and those you love.
